Cabernet Vineyards Contact Page

.

Hi, my name is Retta Carl and I want to welcome you to my site about Cabernet vineyards and Cabernet wine.

A few years ago, my boss at the time introduced me to wine.  I had never really drank wine before, except the really cheap stuff that you only drink because you can't afford a bottle of Tequila.

He asked me if I ever drank wine and I when I said I did he started a conversation about wine.  Needless to say, he lost me in the first two sentences.  But I listened anyway, because I liked him and because I like to learn new things.

We worked together out of the same office for over fifteen years, so the more he talked about wine, the more interested I became.  So I started experimenting.  I discovered fairly quickly that my palate found red wines distasteful, to say the least.

When I first started tasting, about the only thing I found that I liked were the sweet wines, I'm talking dessert wines here, the really sweet ones.  I was not satisfied with that, because I kept talking to people that raved about this wine or that, and I just had to taste them after they raved about them.

As I continued tasting, I started finding more wines that I liked, but always the whites, never the reds.  They were too dry for my taste and I did not like the way they made my mouth pucker.  I love a nice crisp Pinot Gris, a Muscato can make my eyes cross, it is so good, and a Gewurztraminer can make my night any night of the week.

I am finding that as I continue tasting, that my taste buds are changing.  I do not know what is causing this, I only know that it is so.  I am only good for one glass of dessert wine now and the timing needs to be right to drink it at all.  I still love the Pinot Gris, Muscato and Gewurztraminer, but I now choose the less sweet varieties.

I have actually found a couple of red wines that I now enjoy.  I have found that I like Chianti, thanks to a tasting room stop while in Italy.  But not all Chianti wines please my palate, but the one I found in Italy was like velvet on the tongue.  I am still searching for another to match it, and when I find it, I will buy two cases.  And there is a soft red out of Idaho that I fell in love with, luckily for me I live in Oregon and so that is not too hard to find.  And now, Cabernet.

I live in a small town and there are 20 – 30 wineries/tasting rooms in my town, which is kind of funny, since it has a population of only about 2000 or so.  In my very near future I will be hitting all of the wineries in my town and checking out the Cabernet selections.  And, since I live smack dab in the middle of Oregon wine country, I have quite a few more within a short drive to go and check out.

So I hope you will enjoy the journey with me as I explore Cabernet vineyards and find what each has to offer to the Cabernet wine they produce.

If you would like to contact me, please feel free to do so.  I would also love to read your comments on the individual wine pages I will be posting.  If you would like to send me an email, please use the contact form below, I would love to hear from you!

Salute!
