Normally when people think of Southern California, they think of a dry arid land that would be difficult to grow certain types of grapes in. That is not the case in the Temecula Valley, however. This valley is capable of growing a diverse variety of grapes, including the cool climate varieties of Riesling, Gewurztraminer, and Chardonnay, through the moderate climate varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc, as well as the warmer climate Mediterranean varieties such as Viognier, Syrah, Grenache, Sangiovese, and Tempranillo. It is very unusual for one area to deal to grow so many varieties of wine grapes.

Most wineries in the area are small, and they are all family owned. It is one of the few wine regions where you may actually run into the owner or winemaker when you visit the tasting rooms. All of the wineries in the area produce exceptional wines, each with their own preference of style. Some will focus on a very limited number of wines they produce and others will offer a wide range of wines.
